Filming in Caledon

Thank you for your interest in filming in Caledon! Together, Service Caledon, Roads Operations, Caledon Fire, Community Services and the Economic Development Office provide the information and support needed for productions to film in Caledon.  

The Town of Caledon does not presently have a general Film Permit application process, however project-specific permits and documentation are required in some cases. Filming in the Right of Way 

If you plan to film, store equipment, interrupt traffic flow (even temporarily) in the Right of Way, a Road Closure Permit is required. This includes Intermittent and Full Road Closures, Road Occupancy Permits and Share the Road permits.  

 Renting Town-owned Facilities

 Special Effects and Dangerous Filming 

If your project plans for the use of any of the SPFX, you must notify info@visitcaledon.ca and obtain Ontario Provincial Police approval prior to filming. This includes: 

  • Squibs 
  • Smoke 
  • SPFX gunfire 
  • explosives  
  • blanks

Pyrotechnics or Explosives 

To help keep residents safe, the Town of Caledon has implemented a Fireworks By-law. The bylaw, effective April 26, 2022, means discharging of fireworks for personal use is not allowed in Caledon, nor is the sale of home fireworks.  

The bylaw uses a permit system for large fireworks displays such as community events, motion picture and theatrical pyrotechnics. The permit will require the following:  

  • minimum safe distances of 300m from all vulnerable occupancies (schools, nursing and care facilities), industrial, fuel dispensing facilities and agricultural facilities containing livestock; 

  • displays be discharged by a licensed Display Supervisor; 

  • sufficient insurance for liability purposes; 

  • inspections for safety; and 

  • fireworks be planned for acceptable times and locations from dusk to 11 p.m. unless otherwise approved. 

Drones

All productions using a drone must supply the following to the Town of Caledon Film Liaison (business@caledon.ca) prior to filming: 

  • COI listing the Town of Caledon as an additional insured 

  • pilot’s information & license 

  • information regarding the intent of the filming and approximate flight path 

  • notification letter to be delivered to residents impacted by the drone filming. 

If drone filming will occur over the roadway, anintermittent road closure permitwill also berequired 

NOTE: You are responsible for adhering to Transport Canada’s Privacy Guidelines for Recreational and Commercial Drone Operators 

Drones are prohibited in all ofCVC, TRCA and OHT parks 

Letter notification 

All film productions are required to notify area residents and businesses in advance of filming. 

Please provide a copy of the letter to Service Caledon prior to distribution, at info@caledon.ca.
