Profile: Brampton Caledon Community Foundation

Brampton Caledon CF

The Brampton and Caledon Community Foundation builds and administers charitable endowment funds on behalf of donors to benefit charities in the community. We recently asked James Boyd, President and CEO to tell us a little about the Foundation and why this work is so important to him.

Tell us about the Community Foundation.

The Brampton and Caledon Community Foundation (BACCF) was founded in 2002; with 2022 being the Foundation's 20th Anniversary.  The BACCF is a member of Community Foundations of Canada; a Canada-wide membership organization comprised of almost 200 Community Foundations.

The BACCF builds and administers charitable endowment funds on behalf of donors to benefit charities in our community in perpetuity.  The donor's gift is a permanent gift that provides an annual grant to a charity of the donor's determination.

The BACCF supports all areas of the charitable sector including, but not limited to, social services, environment, education and health care.

Why have you chosen to have an office in Caledon East?

The Brampton and Caledon Community Foundation selection of Caledon East for its office reflects the geographic centre of the BACCF's service area.  Caledon East is a central location that allows the BACCF to provide both convenient service and accessibility for our clientele.

Access to the office is by appointment Monday through Friday 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Tell us about you, how and why did you choose to work for this charity organization?

I joined the Foundation 18 years ago.  At the time, what attracted me to the Foundation was its donor-focused mandate expressed and structured through a sound and proven business model.

I liked the fact that Foundation was local, with a mission to improve our local community through funding of charities that are working hard every day to strengthen the fabric of society.  Positive results are tangible, and therefore provable.

We all have a product or service to sell.  I wanted to be proud of the product/service I sell; at the Foundation, I am.

The Foundation offers donors and philanthropists a safe, secure and sustainable vehicle to meet their charitable wishes.  We offer a proven model that, since inception, has seen the Foundation reach 106 Endowment Funds, allocate almost $8 million to charities in our community, and make approximately 1300 individual grants.

What does the future hold for the Foundation – any expansion of programming or changes coming?

The future for the Foundation will be based on maintaining the personal approach to philanthropy where the donor's wishes are always paramount.

Technology will play an increasingly convenient role, as it does in all other areas of our lives.  However, it's always been, and always will be, the personal connection a donor has at the Foundation to their philanthropy and charitable-giving that makes the Foundation the best choice for so many.

When is the next intake for the grant program(s) and any tips for organizations submitting applications?

The next intake for grant applications will begin shortly, with a February 2023 deadline for submission.  Please check the Foundation's website at www.bramptoncaledoncf.ca, beginning November 1st, for more information.

Organizations that are submitting for the first time are encouraged to join our annual Grant Information Session that we will be holding mid-January 2023.  The details for the Grant Information Session will be posted on our website later this year.
