Giovanni and Clancy are passionate about being eco-friendly but found it challenging to source the products they wanted locally so they decided to combine their passion for zero-waste and their dream of owning their own business to open Viva Earth Refillery Inc.
Tell us about your business.
Viva Earth Refillery is an eco-friendly, zero waste store that offers everything that you use daily at home. All of our products are Canadian-based, made without any harmful chemicals, and are good for you and the environment. We offer a large variety of hygiene products including personal care from head to toe. We offer a large variety of natural body lotions, face creams, shampoos and conditioners, body washes, hand soaps and so much more.
We also pride ourselves in supplying numerous household cleaning products as well. These include multi-surface cleaners and disinfectants, window cleaners, stainless steel cleaners, laundry detergents and softeners and the list goes on and on.
This is a soon-to-be family business as we are getting married in June and for now, our store is our “baby!” We fully operate our business together. Giovanni is a plumber by trade and works during the day as a plumber. Clancy is at the store full-time. On evenings and weekends, we are both at the store together. Currently we’re open Tuesday to Sunday.
Tell us about you, why did you decide to open your own business?
Two years ago, it was clear to us that there was almost no avenue for us to be eco-friendly. After doing some research, watching documentaries, and learning that only 9% of plastic is recycled in Canada, we knew that we had to step up and do everything that we can to help save our environment for future generations. Our inspiration was to provide a cleaner environment and supply natural products without harmful chemicals.
So for the last two years, we dreamed about one day opening our own Refillery. Finally, in January of this year, we took the steps to do so- and we are so glad we did. We are motivated every day to better our environment. We would like to be that change needed to help our beautiful world!
Why did you decide to locate in Bolton?
We wanted to provide our services close to home. Currently, we live in Palgrave. Giovanni grew up in Tottenham and Clancy grew up in Everett, both being from small communities we know the importance of supporting our local community and small businesses. We do all of our shopping in the area and knew Bolton was the perfect centre to be able to serve our large community.
What are your future plans for the business?
It is a goal to expand and grow in the future. For now, we plan to stay here in the Caledon area to enhance our connections and relationships with our local community.
What is the best bit of wisdom you have learned along the way?
Along our journey, we truly learned the value of following your dreams.
Opening our refillery was always a dream that did not seem reachable. But now looking at our beautiful store, it is the most incredible feeling in the whole world!
